Here’s how North East businesses can have post-Brexit trading queries answered
Businesses across the North East looking to plan for post-Brexit tariffs will soon be able to have their questions answered, thanks to the upcoming launch of a new information hub.
According to the North East England Chamber of Commerce, companies region-wide have expressed concern over trading relations and procedures in light of Britain’s decision to leave the EU.
Developed by i2i Infinity, new website will be launched next month in tandem with a Chamber session called ‘Brexit and Beyond’, where guests will hear what can be expected on issues including possible duty rates and how to prepare for the changes.
Guest speakers will include Hirohito Imakoji, Liebherr Sunderland Works, who will set out his company’s approach to deciphering potential changes, and how the Chamber is assisting with this, using the website and technical expertise retained for members.
Brian Dakers, Chamber international trade manager, said: “This website and the launch event have been designed to ensure businesses are able to find out as much as possible on the potential outcomes of the Brexit negotiations.
“While it’s impossible to say what kind of deal we’ll achieve at this stage, we are sure that World Trade Organisation (WTO) rates of duty are the fall back option.
“Our new Brexit toolkit allows companies to find out what WTO rates mean for their imports and exports, allowing for accurate assessment of the changes ahead, in the worst case, presuming no better deal is achieved.
“Some businesses may be pleasantly surprised to learn what the percentages are, while others might find their situation less favourable but it’s obviously best to have the information, regardless.”
Further information is available on the Chamber website.
