Bolton-based Hilton Smythe secures business sales worth £4.2m in record month
North West business broker Hilton Smythe has recorded its most successful month since it was founded six years ago.
In March, the Bolton-based firm agreed and completed the sale of 49 companies in transactions worth a combined £4.2m.
The businesses sold ranged from high street staples such as cafés, post offices and chip shops to enterprises formerly run by families where the retiring owners had no relatives to take over.
The North East, Yorkshire and East Midlands were among the regions with the highest number of transactions.
According to Hilton Smythe, the record month is demonstrative of the strength of the economy following the instability seen in the wake of last June’s EU referendum.
Now, the company is working on beating March’s figures. One business Hilton Smythe is currently selling is Settle’s, the Bolton-based family-owned bakery.
Gareth Smyth, group managing director at Hilton Smythe, said: “We have had an excellent month in March, achieving our highest number of sales since launching.
“We have been able to facilitate a number of high value sales which will stimulate the economy and boost the number of UK-based owner-managed businesses by ensuring their continued success under new ownership.”
He continued: “We’re thrilled to be selling Settle’s bakery, as we’re a Bolton-based business ourselves, and making a difference to our local community is important to us. This bakery has been part of the local economy for decades, and we want to match it to the right buyer to make sure its legacy survives.
“We are confident that we will continue to build our sales over the coming months, owing to our increased pipeline of buyers and sellers throughout the UK.”
