St Helens-based EDP adds to asbestos services with strategic acquisition

Health, safety and environment consultancy EDP has completed its strategic acquisition of Chesterfield-based IOM Consulting Ltd’s (IOM) asbestos site services arm.

St Helens firm EDP said the transaction will enable it to offer clients a full range of property compliance and risk-management services that now includes UKAS-accredited asbestos surveys, air monitoring, re-inspections and four-stage clearances.

EDP will also now be able to provide remediation consultancy and asbestos awareness training.

As part of the deal, a 34-strong team of asbestos staff from IOM have joined EDP.

Further, the company has acquired new office locations in London and Glasgow, with additional specialist teams in Edinburgh and Stafford.

Mark Haydock, EDP’s managing director, said: “This acquisition represents a positive step forward in our growth plans.

“From a strategic point of view, it means we will strengthen our services to customers in the short- term and they will benefit from significant cost savings in the long-term.”

He added: “IOM has a sterling reputation in the industry for quality work and high service levels, so we’re confident its asbestos division will fit seamlessly into our business.”

IOM chief exec Rob Aitken commented: “This decision has been carefully considered as the asbestos site services division has been a long-standing and fundamental part of IOM since 1990.

“During this time the division has made a vital contribution to our business whilst building a reputation for excellence, quality and service.”

He continued: “However, the marketplace has changed significantly and we believe now is the right time to hand over these services to EDP who share the same values of excellence, quality and service.”
