Jobs boost for Altrincham as Barnfield begins work on £18m Alderbank scheme
Building firm Barnfield Construction has broken ground on an £18m development that looks set to create dozens of new jobs in Altrincham.
Located on the corner of Ashley Road and St John’s Road, the Alderbank WA14 development will deliver 34 large apartments along with six mews houses.
The scheme, led by Manchester developer Real Estate Investment Partnerships Ltd, will create between 20 and 30 jobs during its first phase, with the fit-out of the building in 2018 due to generate an additional 70 jobs.
Alderbank WA14 is being built on the site formerly occupied by Alexandra House, which has now been demolished and removed.
Real Estate Investment Partnerships Ltd chief executive Stephen Slater said: “With the demolition of Alexandra House complete, we’re at an exciting point in the development of Alderbank.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the scheme take shape and the complete transformation of what has been a local eyesore for many years.”
He added: “Altrincham’s regeneration continues to breathe new life into the town and we’re proud to be a part of its mini-renaissance.”
Barnfield Construction contracts manager John Parkinson commented: “Throughout the demolition phase the site has presented its own challenges, due to restricted site access, so we’re pleased to see the development moving forward at a steady pace.
“Everything’s on track to start laying the foundations for this fantastic regeneration project, which will see the once derelict site bloom into a stylish and contemporary complex over the coming months.”
Manchester architects Ollier Smurthwaite designed the development.
