New homes take shape at the Poets Estate

New properties being delivered in Swinton, Greater Manchester by housing association Salix Homes are beginning to take shape.

Salix, which owns over 8,300 homes across Salford, is working with contractor Galliford Try Partnerships to construct 160 new houses at the Poets Estate, Beechfarm.

The homes, a mix of two-, three- and four-bed houses, will replace 146 properties being demolished due to structural issues.

The opening phase of the project is now well underway, according to Salix, with the roof trusses put in place on the properties along Shakespeare Road.

The organisation is expecting the scheme’s first tenants to move in later this year.

Salix Homes development manager Terry McBride said: “This is the first new-build development for Salix Homes, helping us to achieve our aspirations for more affordable housing in Salford.

“It’s also given us the opportunity to provide local jobs for local people.”

Terry continued: “Everyone deserves the opportunity to live in modern, comfortable homes they can afford, so we are delighted to see these new properties taking shape and we’d like to thank residents for their patience while construction is underway.”

Development director for Galliford Try Partnerships North West, Darren Leary, commented: “It’s great to see this exciting new development taking shape.

“Our business is based on regenerating areas such as this and providing affordable homes for local communities.”

He added: “We look forward to pushing on with our partners at Salix Homes to have their customers in their new homes as soon as possible.”

Plans have been submitted to Salford City Council for phases three and four of the development, which includes the demolition and delivery of some properties on Stevenson Road, Kingsley Road, Tennyson Road, Blantyre Street and Wordsworth Road.

The whole scheme is due for completion by Summer 2019.
