General Election 2017: More questions raised than answered

Theresa May’s future premiership is shrouded in doubt following a disastrous election night for the Conservatives.

Expected to win a large majority, the Tories will now contest a hung parliament after Labour won key seats in Scotland, Wales and the south of England.

Even Canterbury, a Tory stronghold since 1918, succumbed to Labour’s Rosie Duffield who ousted Sir Julian Brazier.

Other notable names across Britain’s political spectrum, such as Nick Clegg and Alex Salmond, also lost seats on a night which certainly threw out more questions in regards to the next frontier of British governance.

With no party gaining an overall majority, many will have woken up this morning wondering exactly how key issues, Brexit especially, will be resolved moving forward.

Moreover, who will form a government to lead the charge? With Labour gaining 29 seats and the Conservatives down 12 as it stands, Theresa May’s future has been cast in doubt after a tumultuous campaign and fallout.

Expect the coming days to be fraught with political brinkmanship at the top, potential deals and ultimately, more high profile positions contested.
