International BIM technology conference set to return to Newcastle in 2018

The BIM Show Live conference is set to be hosted in Newcastle in 2018, which marks its return to the city for the second year running.

The announcement follows on from this year’s BIM Show Live in February, which saw over 400 digital construction enthusiasts, including architects, engineers and construction professionals, travel to the North East from all over the world.

The two-day event, delivered by Newcastle-based BeaconHouse Events, will return to the newly renovated Grade Grade-II listed Boiler Shop in Newcastle’s Stephenson Quarter for a second year.

Space Group, the Newcastle-based building Information Modelling (BIM) and digital construction specialist, is responsible for delivering the show.

Rob Charlton, CEO of Space Group, said: “After several successful years in London and Manchester, it was fantastic to bring the conference back to our home town this year and in such a great venue that we have a passionate connection with.

“BIM Show Live 2017 was a significant achievement and one we look forward to building on in 2018. We delivered a memorable event and generated an outstanding knowledge and exchange platform for digital construction which potentially created numerous opportunities for the future.

“Seminars were incredibly well attended and we were bowled over by the fantastic feedback from all the delegates, who praised both the venue and the city.

“The North East has become a centre of excellence for digital construction in the UK and with the success of BIM Show Live we aim to raise this profile even further. Plans are well underway for next year’s event and we are confident of producing another high-quality programme packed with new and exciting content.”

Paul Szomoru, head of business tourism at NewcastleGateshead Initiative, added: “BIM Show Live 2017 was a brilliant conference, buzzing with ideas and innovation, and the Boiler Shop – one of Newcastle’s most exciting new venues – was the perfect location for such an event. It was also a fantastic opportunity to showcase the high concentration of tech and BIM specialists in Newcastle.

“The NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau is really excited to be working together with Space Group and BeaconHouse Events, in developing BIM Show Live internationally and making the 2018 conference even bigger and better.

“This will further consolidate NewcastleGateshead’s profile as the UK capital of BIM and in turn will attract further BIM-led expertise and investment to the region.”
