Northern Gas Networks invests £400k in Darlington gas infrastructure
Gas distributer Northern Gas Networks (NGN) has announced a plan to invest £400k in upgrading the gas mains at Geneva Road in Darlington.
This project, part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the area’s gas infrastructure, will involve replacing around 6km of ageing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes.
The upgrade, NGN said, will ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas for years.
Work on the scheme started on Wednesday (June 21) and is forecast to take 25 weeks.
Northern Gas Networks’ construction services area manager, Stuart Armin, said: “We have been working closely with the local council to carefully plan these works and will be doing all we can to minimise disruption to customers.
“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience customers may encounter, and thank them for their support as we work to complete this project as safely and quickly as possible.”
To carry out the works, a road closure will operate on Neasham Road at the railway bridge from July 3 for approximately two weeks, with a signed diversion route via A66 and Yarm Road in place for motorists.
Residents of the nearby Railway Cottages will have access at all times.
The upgrade is due for completion on December 8.
