Plans approved for £10m Roomzzz Aparthotel at Harrogate's Great Yorkshire Showground
Roomzzz, the aparthotel chain, is set to build a new venue on the Great Yorkshire Showground site following a successful appeal against a refusal of planning permission by Harrogate Borough Council.
Roomzzz is investing over £10m into the new 98-apartment aparthotel, which is scheduled to open in Q4 2019.
Working alongside architect and landscape architects BDP, Roomzzz Harrogate aims to build on the success of its existing seven aparthotels including Chester, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Nottingham.
Each apartment is fully-equipped for day-to-day living, with fitted kitchens, broadband and widescreen TV. The latest edition to the portfolio will also comprise a state-of-the-art gym, coffee shop and meeting rooms.
Naveen Ahmed, CEO of Roomzzz Aparthotel UK, commented: “We’re delighted that our appeal has been successful and that Harrogate will be the latest edition to our aparthotels portfolio.
“The company was founded in Yorkshire, so we know Harrogate well and believe it is the ideal location to expand the Roomzzz brand.
“We know that the typical Roomzzz guests are professionals and international guests who are looking for a longer term stay than a hotel can usually offer. We are confident that the Roomzzz Aparthotel will be of huge benefit to both tourism and the economy of Harrogate.”
Roomzzz’s has secured over £75m in its development pipeline for the next 18 months, which includes new properties being built in York, Manchester, London and Edinburgh.
Nigel Pulling, chief executive of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, said: “We are delighted that planning permission has been granted for Roomzzz which will really enhance our offering at the showground.
“From our visitors and competitors at the Great Yorkshire Show, to delegates and exhibitors for the Yorkshire Event Centre and Pavilions of Harrogate, the addition of 98 rooms for overnight accommodation will take us up to the next level.”
The Great Yorkshire Showground is situated off Railway Road and is host to nearly 700 events throughout the year, including the agricultural Great Yorkshire Show.
The Showground receives approximately half a million visitors each year, with events generating £47m for the local economy.
