SES Engineering secures £5m contract on Lancashire Constabulary’s new Blackpool HQ
National engineering firm SES Engineering Services is adding to its growing portfolio of justice sector newbuild projects after securing a £5m contract in Lancashire.
The company will work collaboratively with principal contractor Willmott Dixon to create a new HQ for the West Division of Lancashire Constabulary.
The three-storey building, marking the largest investment in the force’s history, is currently under construction on Clifton Road in Blackpool.
Once complete, the site will replace Lancashire Constabulary’s existing facilities at Bonny Street.
SES’ work on the development will include the installation of a full range of building services, including lighting, solar panels, building management systems, power distribution and rainwater drainage systems.
The 91,500 sq ft property will comprise new office space, a 42-cell custody area, an investigations hub and a base for local neighbourhood policing and immediate response teams.
It will also serve as the home for specialist teams covering the Fylde coast, Lancaster and Morecambe areas.
SES’ business director North, Steve Joyce, said: “I am delighted to have this further opportunity of working in partnership with Willmott Dixon on behalf of Lancashire Constabulary, the Police and Crime Commissioner, on a landmark building for the force which will also benefit the local area.
“This project provides us with an excellent opportunity to build on our growing expertise in the blue light sector and the excellent working relationship we have developed with the main contractor, and the rest of the project team.”
He continued: “To overcome some of the challenges we face when working on a facility of this type, our package of extensive MEP services for the building will be designed to meet stringent guidelines as set out by the Home Office.”
Willmott Dixon operations manager Richard Wright commented: “We are delighted to be working with Lancashire Constabulary and the office of the Police and Crime Commissioner to deliver the new West Division HQ.
“As part of the wider project we are working closely with Blackpool Council, Blackpool & Fylde College and the local community to deliver important social value benefits and work opportunities.”
He added: “Construction work is progressing well with the structure nearing completion and SES will shortly be joining us to commence the MEP works. Thanks to the excellent working relationship the project team has forged, I’m extremely confident that work on the building will progress smoothly ready for completion in 2018.”
SES Engineering Services is part of family-owned construction, development and property services company Wates Group.
