London's busiest rail routes could soon be getting onboard contactless ticketing thanks to this tech firm
London-headquartered payments firm Worldline has sealed a major contract with Govia Thameslink that will see it deliver its mobile ticketing platform across the operator’s franchises and networks.
As part of the deal, Govia Thameslink Railway will implement Worldine’s Mobile Ticket Service across its network, which could potentially include the Southern rail franchise, Thameslink and Great Northern.
The agreement, which builds on contracts already in place with Govia’s Go-Ahead Group parent company, has the potential to make journeys far more convenient for beleaguered commuters by giving them ability to pay onboard with their contactless cards.
For train operators, the new system will replace its current desktop-based (and presumably long in the tooth) system, and provide mobile functionality on any Android device.
The agreement also marks a continuation of GTR’s modernisation drive, where it is looking to introduce technological innovation and digital convenience across its network, particularly with consumer expectations changing so drastically over the last few years.

“We are confident that Mobile POS for ticket issuing and retailing other products will improve passenger service, increase the speed of customer interaction, and enable payments to be processed faster.”
According to Worldline, the new systems should be in place by the end of 2017 with implementation beginning in the fourth quarter of this year.
