Public Sector Communications Academy selects Leeds for 2017 conference
ConferenceLeeds has announced that the Public Sector Communications Academy conference will be taking place on the 18th and 19th October at Cloth Hall Court in Leeds, following a successful bid through the city’s conference ambassador programme. The annual national conference, which is organised by LGCommunications and the Government Communications Service, will see 600 of the country’s leading public sector communications professionals visit the city.
LGCommunications is the national body working to raise the standard of communication in local government. They deliver the Academy conference in partnership with the Government Communications Service, which works on behalf of national government, with support from the Local Government Association. Following an assessment of target destinations, including Birmingham and Media City in Salford, the committee chose Leeds due to its accessibility, value for money and range of impressive venues.
During the selection process, ConferenceLeeds worked closely with one of its ambassadors, Dee Reid, Head of Communications and Marketing at Leeds City Council, to ensure there was a thorough understanding of the city and how it could work to meet the client’s needs.
Dee commented: “ConferenceLeeds’ knowledge and understanding of the city and its venues was essential in helping us win this conference for Leeds. The team ensured everyone had a confident understanding of how the city could work to the client’s advantage, pairing their expert knowledge with the requirements for the conference.”
Simon Jones, Chair of LGCommunications, added: “This is the biggest conference of its kind for public sector communicators, so we needed a destination that could live up to that. We chose Leeds because of the fantastic conference facilities in what is a great city location. Roll on October!”
Jennifer Young, Head of ConferenceLeeds, commented: “This is a fantastic win for the city and a good opportunity for us to showcase our work on a national scale. We’re proud that the Academy recognised Leeds as an impressive conferencing destination that is continuing to thrive, which is testament to the hard work that is carried out across the city. We will be welcoming all 300 delegates to the city with a warm Yorkshire welcome and know they will have a brilliant time with us.”
