Thumbs up for 142-bed Blackpool Talbot Gateway hotel
Plans for a new 142-bed hotel in Blackpool’s Central Business District have been approved.
The venue is part of phase two of the of £100m Talbot Gateway regeneration scheme being delivered by developer Muse Developments in partnership with Blackpool Council.
Located on the site of the Wilkinson’s building next to Blackpool North station, the new five-storey hotel will house a restaurant and bar along with conference facilities and ground-floor retail space.
The approved plans also include a temporary 127-space car park and access improvements between the proposed new tram station and the railway station.
The Wilkinson’s building will be demolished once Wilkinson’s has vacated the site. Construction of the hotel, designed by architectural practice Leach Rhodes Walker, will start immediately after.
Mike Horner, regional director at Muse, said: “We’re delighted to have secured planning approval for the second phase of our multi-award-winning Talbot Gateway project, which has already delivered a refurbished multi-story car park, civic office and Sainsbury’s store.
“The new hotel will provide 142 quality rooms plus conferencing and leisure facilities, which will complement the rest of the scheme and further transform the arrival experience from Blackpool North railway station.”
Blackpool Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Enterprise and Economic Development, Cllr Mark Smith, commented: “This is a really positive move which will help expand Blackpool’s Central Business District and help to attract extra investment to the town.
“Sited next door to the train station, above the new tramway terminus and only a very short walk from the town centre and new conference centre, the hotel will offer quality town centre accommodation for hundreds of business tourists, helping us to create a stronger local economy and more local jobs.”
