Bury-based Roxtec delivers seals for £1.3bn English Channel windfarm
Cable seal manufacturer Roxtec has completed a project supporting the construction of a new £1.3bn offshore windfarm in the English Channel.
The Bury-based firm designed and supplied all cable seals used at the Rampion Offshore windfarm, located 13km off the coast of Sussex.
Work to install the first of the site’s 116 wind turbines started in April and will continue throughout 2017.
Once complete, the windfarm will occupy an area of 72 km sq – almost three times the size of Manhattan Island in New York.
According to Roxtec UK managing director Clive Sharp, the Rampion contract added to a growing portfolio of work in the offshore renewables market.
To date, Roxtec has worked with over 40 projects involving offshore windfarms in Europe.
Clive said: “This contract involved supplying seals for single-core cables, both high and medium voltage, in the bulkhead and deck areas of the platforms.
“We designed a customised solution, involving trefoil formation cable seals for medium-voltage switchgear and split plates for high-voltage and export cables.”
He added: “While carrying out the design process our engineers have also delivered training to ensure effective installation and management of the seals.”
Last summer Roxtec, part of Sweden-headquartered Roxtec Group, announced the launch of a new company targeting the North Sea’s marine and offshore markets.
Rampion Offshore Windfarm has a target capacity of 400 MW and is due for completion in 2018.
