Disruptive technology in lab medicine is key focus at global diagnostics summit
Novarum DX Founder and BBI Group Head of Mobile, Dr Neil Polwart, will demonstrate the smartphone’s disruptive potential to shift diagnostic testing from laboratories to the point of care, at the Next Generation DX Summit 2017.
Dr Polwart will discuss how the smartphone will impact upon the healthcare industry between 1-3 years, during a keynote speaker panel on Disruptive Technologies in Lab Medicine.
Held in Washington between 15th - 18th August, the summit is expected to attract over 1,000 industry professionals from the diagnostics world. The annual gathering invites industry figures to learn about technological advancements and next generation solutions for diagnostic testing, which are at the forefront of innovation and patient care.
Dr Polwart commented: “The Next Generation DX summit is a major event within the healthcare calendar and I’m delighted to be taking part in the summit’s technology panel discussion.
“It’s an incredibly exciting time to be working in the healthcare sector. Disruptive technologies are driving a step-change in diagnostic testing at a significant rate - and the smartphone is a catalyst in empowering patients to conduct their own test and manage their own conditions, from the comfort of their own home.”
“Healthcare is rapidly moving away from a scenario where diagnostic testing could only be carried out in a highly controlled and regulated laboratory.”
“We are now entering a landscape where patients can conduct their diagnostic tests with the same level of accuracy, compared to lab conditions, and share results instantly with healthcare professionals - using only the smartphone in their pocket.”
Novarum’s patented technology allows users to read and share results of diagnostic tests using nothing more than a smartphone. Its intuitive user-interface ensures that their custom mobile apps can be used by anyone, to connect with medical professionals and with minimal end-user training.
Novarum’s custom web apps are used by some of the diagnostic industry’s biggest players and Novarum also works with smaller, more nimble specialists to develop new approaches to target and treat infectious disease, toxicology and auto-immune disease.
The smartphone readers enable tests to be accurately read on-site, in remote and challenging environments. This ground-breaking technology enables application across multiple sectors, including: medical, food safety, veterinary and aviation industries, with no extra hardware and at a low total cost of ownership.
