Paul Broadfoot and Keith Handy, Space Architects
Paul Broadfoot and Keith Handy have been promoted to Director level at Newcastle-based Space Architects.
Paul (BSc Arch, BArch (Hons) Architecture) joined Space in 2005 and has over 15 years’ experience designing primarily for the education, residential and retail sectors.
Paul is currently managing and developing the Education and Lidl teams. The Lidl’s national specification role involves working on a variety of their international store types including their new Metropolitan and TYPE 1300.
These designs and specifications are then distributed to all Lidl’s’ Architects in the UK. Paul also manages the construction delivery of Lidl projects and has up to 30 plus stores.
In addition, Paul oversees the design and delivery of all educational projects and is currently working on CAP 3 and Isle of Wight schools.
Paul commented: “I want to play my part in developing the practice through innovation, and improve efficiencies in the way we deliver our projects. Using new technologies is a key part of what we do here at Space and this is what sets apart from our competitors.”
Keith (BA (Hons) Architecture, PG Diploma in Architecture, PG Diploma in Professional Practice joined the practice in 2006 and has been a key driver in the development of a wide client network, which he expects to grow in the next 12 months, in particular with opportunities in the residential sector.
Keith spoke about his vision for Space Architects and his team following his appointment: “My goal is to achieve a common-vision throughout the team, we share a passion for architecture and design and this is the perfect foundation upon which to build success.
“I also aim to help lead on our strategic direction and further build up key sectors, including education and residential.”
Dr Bernadette Johnson, Addere Valorem
Newcastle-based chartered accountancy firm Addere Valorem has bolstered its ranks with the addition of highly-experienced R&D finance specialist Dr Bernadette Johnson.
Offering a boutique Corporate Finance Advisory service, Addere Valorem specialises in helping North East businesses raise Development Capital through Banks, VCs, Private Investors and through Grant Assistance.
As a manager for over 19 yrs with Procter and Gamble, Dr Johnson is now working alongside her husband of 20 yrs, and chartered accountant, Alister Brown.
Bernadette commented: “My previous experience both in R&D and in consumer understanding holds me in good stead when it comes to summarising our clients R&D tax relief eligibility. Interviewing a client about their business is not that dissimilar to conducting an in-home visit with a consumer.
“What I particularly enjoy about my new role is the diversity of the businesses we work with. As a curious scientist finding out how businesses are seeking to grow through innovation and then identifying how we can help them is very rewarding.
She added: “Our clients benefit greatly from our having complementary skill sets.”
Pete Townsend, @retail
Retail property agency @retail has appointed Pete Townsend as a Graduate Surveyor in its Newcastle Office
Pete recently graduated from Northumbria University with a First Class Honours in Real Estate and he will work with the @retail team across the North East dealing with lettings, sales and professional work in the region’s High streets and shopping centres. He will work closely with Dan Turner who has recently been promoted to Associate Director.
Pete commented“ “I am really looking forward to working with the @retail team, with their clients and the range of retail property they are currently engaged with and I am excited about the prospect of getting stuck in helping our clients find what they are looking for and to doing some serious deals!”

His enthusiasm and experience is welcome and we look forward to helping him with his career progression here @retail“.
Martin Moran, durhamlane
Sales-training provider durhamlane has added Martin Moran, MD at insidesales.com and former Salesforce Leader, to its board as a Non-Executive Director (NED).
In his current role at InsideSales.com, the cloud-based sales-acceleration technology company, Martin is responsible for driving the firm’s international growth. Martin’s track record of success includes global leadership roles for Lumesse Limited, ServiceSource International and Salesforce.
As the first employee in Salesforce’s organisation, he helped grow the company’s EMEA business to $300 million in annual revenue. Martin has also driven revenue growth for well-known technology companies like Oracle and Skype.

Sheena Griffiths, Fusion
PR and communications agency, Fusion PR (UK) Ltd, has appointed Sheena Griffiths as account director following new business wins.
Bringing over 20 years’ agency and senior in-house management experience to the role, Sheena will now advise, support and provide a high level of strategic PR and marketing expertise to a range of commercial B2B and B2C clients including international organisations, owner-managed businesses and regional SMEs.
For the past 10 years, Sheena has worked for highly successful companies operating within industries including residential and commercial property development, leisure and recreation, data technology and satellite communications. Prior to that, she headed up the PR division of a full-service marketing agency working across sectors such as education and training, housebuilding, manufacturing and hospitality.
John McCabe, managing director of Fusion PR which has recently been shortlisted as Outstanding Small PR Consultancy of the Year 2017 in the CIPR PRide Awards (North East), commented, “Sheena has built a very impressive career on both the agency and client sides of the public relations industry and her appointment brings a new dimension to our work.

Adam Cassidy, RGCF
Ryecroft Glenton Corporate Finance (RGCF) has appointed Adam Cassidy, to join the growing team as Corporate Finance Executive.
Adam, 26, has five years’ experience working as an international accountant for 8 of Proctor & Gamble’s overseas entities, with a combined profit of $40 million.
Originally from Halifax, West Yorkshire, Adam studied at Lancaster University Management School before securing a Financial and Accounting Internship at Proctor and Gamble. He progressed through various roles at the company, before becoming an International Accountant in 2015.
As Corporate Finance Executive, Adam will help to support Ryecroft Glenton’s existing corporate finance capability, whilst contributing to the development of the firm’s strategic advisory services, which help its clients to deliver growth strategies and increase shareholder value.
Adam said “Ryecroft Glenton Corporate Finance is continuing to build momentum in the market and this is an exciting time to join the firm. Its diverse client base is well serviced by an experienced and driven team, which I am delighted to be a part of, and I’m keen to play a role in its ongoing success.”
Ben Malone, BIM
Ben Malone has been appointed as Director for BIM. Technologies; a BIM consultancy working behind the scenes with some of the construction industry’s biggest contractors, consultants and private clients.
Their dedicated team of Information Managers, Architects, Surveyors, Programmers and construction professionals are passionate about Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the future of digital construction.
Ben graduated from the Copenhagen School of Design and Technology with a BA Architectural Technology/Technician degree and worked as a BIM Consultant before joining BIM. Technologies in 2012. Since then he has played a key role in developing new business and ensuring that client expectations are met.
Working with clients such as Google, Galliford Try and BAM, Ben’s appointment as Director will see him managing the BIM. Technologies team in addition to his previous and continuing ambitions of business development. He will ensure that the company goals to provide strategic advice, draft BIM protocols, BIM Execution Plans and advice on technology and software implementation continue and excel.
Ben said; “This appointment is a natural progression of the work I’ve long been involved in at BIM. Technologies and I’m delighted to be at the helm and continue our involvement with some of the most exciting and influential construction projects throughout the UK and beyond.”
