New office marks £1.4m sales boost for Coventry recruitment specialist

A leading Coventry recruitment specialist has recovered from an office fire to post its best ever year.

Genesis Employment Services, which is run by husband and wife team Gaynor and Richard Frost, is expecting sales to reach £6.5m in 2017 – a £1.4m rise on the previous twelve months.

The firm’s growth has come from building strong partnerships with clients in the automotive, engineering and food sectors, with a series of new contracts secured due to its personal approach and ability to react quickly to sudden spikes in staff demand.

The company recently marked the whirlwind period of growth by inviting Coventry City manager Mark Robins to officially open its new office in Hay Lane, a move brought forward due to the fire at the beginning of the year.

“Safe to say it wasn’t a great start to the year having a fire in the restaurant underneath us causing significant damage to our offices, but sometimes you just have to deal with what’s in front of you and come back stronger,” explained Gaynor, who has been in recruitment for more than 30 years.

“That’s exactly what we did. We kept the business open and started to look at alternative premises and was delighted to find we could take the office above us, which is about 600 sq ft bigger than we had previously.”

She continued: “Our recent contract wins mean we need to expand the team and we now have the space we need to take on another five consultants. The offices also have dedicated meeting and conference room facilities, as well as a brilliant city centre location making us easy to reach.

“We have a long history with Coventry City, having previously sponsored the back of their shirts and, this season, the goal of the month. I’m delighted Mark has found the time to help us get the start of a new chapter off to a high-profile start.”

Genesis Employment Services was founded in 2006 to offer West Midlands firms an independent alternative to high-street recruitment agencies.

It has grown year-on-year thanks to a commitment to offering a more bespoke service to both employers and candidates, ensuring that both parties are matched to each other’s needs and skills sets.

Today, the company regularly supply 500 temporary staff to clients in engineering, food manufacturing, warehousing and across professional services. It can also find and recruit permanent staff if required.

Richard, who was heavily involved in franchising before starting the business, picked up the story: “We try to build long-term partnerships with our clients, getting to know how they tick and what their staffing requirements are. This gives us the knowledge we need to find the right people that will start and have an immediate positive impact, whether that’s on the shopfloor, in the office or in the technical department.

“There’s been a steady stream of new contract wins, including a deal to supply local manufacturer Pressmark Pressings. We have also signed an exclusive two-year agreement with fruit wholesaler Fyffes to supply hundreds of staff every week.”

He added: “This has been partly due to the high score we secured when we were audited for our conformance to the Gangmaster Licensing Act to protect the interests and welfare of workers operating in this arena. We are proud to be a ‘Stronger Together 2017 Business Partner’.

“Not only do we want to deliver the best service to our clients, but we also want to make sure our candidates are well looked after and given support to find the right jobs and, in time, develop their own careers.”

John Nollett, Chief Executive of Pressmark Pressings and the President of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, concluded: “I’ve used Genesis for over 10 years now for manufacturing recruitment and always found Gaynor and the team very responsive and professional when meeting our staffing requirements.

“They are as good in our sector, if not better, than many of the national recruitment firms that have a local office and we are delighted to welcome them to their new modern offices set in a great part of the City Centre.”

Genesis Employment Services, which supports Zoë’s Place, Acorns Children’s Hospice and Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, is looking to take on five new recruitment consultants over the next three months. This will take the total workforce to 16.
