Boston trade delegation descends on North East
A delegation of leading Boston business figures are visiting the North East for a trade mission this week (20 September – 22 September).
Organised by the North East England Chamber of Commerce, the touring delegation will learn about the region’s key sectors and investment opportunities over the next three days.
There will be a range of business briefings and meetings with North East businesses including those looking to secure contracts with Boston firms.
The outline of doing business in the region for the overseas visitors will be followed by a detailed briefing on how to do business in Boston including taxation laws, transportation of goods, and what openings there are currently available for British companies.
Julie Underwood, Chamber International Trade Director explained: “These reciprocal trade missions are a great opportunity to get really under the skin of potential overseas clients and also let our visitors learn about our unique business culture.”
Also part of the Boston trade mission are representatives from marketing company Wallwork Curry McKenna, accountancy business Vacovec Mayotte & Singers, Virgin Atlantic Eastern Region US and Agenus Bio.
Among a range of activities the delegates will visit Chamber members Parker Gas Separation & Filtration in Gateshead and Caterpillar UK in Peterlee so they can learn about manufacturing successes in the North East.
Following this visit, in November there will be a return visit to Boston, which will be the fourth Northern Powerhouse trade mission to the US state.
Kenneth J. Vacovec, Chairman of the Trade Mission, added: “The historic industrial cities across the North of England, like Newcastle upon Tyne, are famous for their innovation in the 19th century, but they are once again leading in new high-tech industries and there is a huge opportunity to make New England the natural landing place for British firms there looking trade with North America, and also to those looking to joint venture in the US.”
