The Grade II-listed building is now a three-bedroom home

‘Rare opportunity’ as 430-year-old former pub in Bolton goes up for sale

A detached property in Bolton that was used as a public house over 400 years ago is up for sale.

The Old Ale House at 1 Ainsworth Lane in Tonge Fold, built around 1580, will appear at auction in Manchester next month.

The Grade II-listed building is now a three-bedroom home.

SDL Auctions North West, the company tasked with securing buyer for the historic Ale House, will bring it to auction with a guide price of £150k.

The Old Ale House has large off-road parking areas and “substantial” gardens on three sides, according to SDL.

Andy Thompson, senior valuer at SDL Auctions North West, said: “The Old Ale House is a stunning residence full of character with period features throughout, including the original beer cellar.

“This is a rare opportunity to purchase a historical home and we’re expecting strong interest for this and many of the other interesting properties we have from across the north west and beyond.”

The property will go up for auction on October 12.
