NORTH EAST CHARITY SHORTLISTED FOR NATIONAL AWARD

NORTH EAST charity Streetwise have been shortlisted as a finalist in the Young People Now Awards 2017.

Streetwise are shortlisted in the Mental Health Awards category for their inspirational Therapy Bytes programme with young people across the North East. The charity are the only organisation from the region shortlisted in the category and will be judged alongside mental health campaigns from across the UK. Therapy Bytes piloted a free service which offered young people in the North East help to access mental health self-help apps and online support.

Mandy Coppin, chief executive at Streetwise said: “We are overjoyed to have been shortlisted for such a prestigious award. Therapy Bytes helps young people to improve their well-being and provides support to access online resources to give them methods/exercises etc to help reduce their anxiety, stress or distress.

“Some of the main issues young people present when accessing Streetwise services are anxiety, stress and low confidence. One of our core aims at Streetwise is to support young people to achieve greater understanding of themselves and their relationship with the world, build their resilience and increase their self-worth. Being nominated for this award is fantastic recognition for the incredible work of the Streetwise staff and volunteers and we are looking forward to being part of what promises to be an inspirational night this November.”

The winners will be revealed at a gala awards ceremony on the evening of 22 November in London.
