Yorkshire lawyer pens award winning sci-fi novel
Adrian Czajkowski, who works in the Commercial Dispute Resolution team at Blacks Solicitors LLP in Leeds, has been selected as this year’s winner of the British Fantasy Society’s Holdstock Award for his latest book The Tiger & the Wolf.
Decided by an expert jury, comprising of individuals related to the writing, publishing and bookselling industry, the winner was announced at FantasyCon on Sunday 1 October. The Robert Holdstock Award recognises the best published fantasy fiction novel that’s over 40,000 words.
Adrian has been writing for nine years and has written more than 15 fantasy and science fiction novels and is best known for his critically acclaimed ‘Shadows of the Apt’ series.
Picking up his award at FantasyCon in Peterborough, Adrian said: “This is truly an honour and I’m extremely proud and happy to be receiving this award. It’s somewhat of a cliché but I have to thank my dedicated fans who continue to read my books and support me.”
The book sees the clash of two clans who have the ability to shapeshift into the form of their respective animals. The main story revolves around a young outcast Maniye who has the deadly ability of being able to transform into both, as her father is head of the Wolf clan and her mother the queen of the Tigers.
Managing Partner at Blacks Solicitors, Chris Allen, added: “Adrian is not only a good lawyer who offers so much to the firm and his clients but, as he’s demonstrated here and continually over the years, he is also a brilliant writer and this award is well deserved.”
The Tiger and the Wolf is available to buy online or in Waterstones now.
