Europe's largest catering equipment supplier opens new store in Sheffield city centre

Nisbets, Europe’s largest catering equipment supplier, is set to open a new store in Sheffield city centre.

The Bristol-based company, which supplies restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs, hotels, professional chefs and caterers, as well as the general public, has taken 6,500 sq ft in the former Currys store at Redvers House on Union Street.

Nisbets currently has 28 stores in the UK including Leeds, York, Leicester and Nottingham, with more than 2000 staff.

Commercial property agents Knight Frank has negotiated a 10-year lease, which will see Nisbets refurbish and move into the ground floor of the building later this year.

Ben White, associate at Knight Frank in Sheffield, said: “The unit provides open plan retail space with extensive double height glazed frontages to both Union Street and Furnival Gate.

“This area of Sheffield has undergone substantial regeneration over the past 10 years with the prestigious office development of St Paul’s Place and the Heart of the City attractions nearby plus The Moor retail and leisure refurbishment scheme.

“Also nearby is Sheffield’s proposed New Retail Quarter, a comprehensive shopping scheme, which could provide up to 800,000 sq ft of new shopping and leisure located less than 75 yards north on the corner of Furnival Gate and Pinstone Street.”

The move by Nisbets, aided by acquiring agent Brian Birtwistle, principal at Cheshire-based Birtwistle Property Consultants, completes a transformation period for the whole 1970s built Redvers House development.

The 177ft tower, which was previously owned by Sheffield City Council and used as offices by sections of its Social Services department, was bought by private rental sector specialist Make Space, part of The Minton Group, for nearly £7m in June 2015 and turned into studio apartments and communal areas.

The retail unit had been let to Currys until 2019 but became vacant after the electrical retailer moved out in 2016.
