The Orangery at Heaton Hall to reopen as wedding venue

Manchester City Council is seeking a partner to invest in and manage The Orangery at Heaton Hall.

The authority is in talks with the Friends of Heaton Hall group, Historic England and other stakeholders to secure a partner that will breathe new life into the space.

The council’s vision for The Orangery, which closed in 2011, is to see it once more become a venue for events such as weddings and conferences.

Work on The Orangery is part of a property-wide repair scheme at Heaton Hall, delivered with funding support from Historic England.

Improvements include renewed windows, roofing and paintwork.

In the coming weeks, the damaged render on The Orangery’s north facade and the two loggias on the south side will be repaired using materials that match the composition of the original structure.

Manchester City Council’s Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Luthfur Rahman, said: “We have one of the top wedding venues in the region in Heaton Hall, and it being closed for several years has been a tragedy for the many would be bride and grooms who would have loved to have their special day in the beautiful surrounds of the Hall.

“After much hard work to bring life back into Heaton, it is with great excitement that we can begin to prepare for the future of The Orangery and welcome wedding parties back for the first time in more than six years.”

He added: “This is an incredibly special opportunity, and we would love to hear from you if you believe you can make dreams a reality at Heaton Hall.”

A formal tender process for a partner will start in Spring 2018.
