BHP expands in York with move to larger city centre offices
BHP Chartered Accountants has expanded its York presence and relocated into new offices.
BHP, Yorkshire’s largest independent chartered accountancy firm, has signed a 10-year lease on Rievaulx House, which is located off Blossom Street in York city centre.
The three-storey, 4,500 sq ft, building forms part of St Mary’s Court, which is a office development designed in a neo-Georgian style and surrounded by mature landscaped grounds with secure parking.
BHP has operated in York for five years, following its merger with York business Barron & Barron, which was founded in 1893. BHP has since doubled its headcount in York.
Earlier this year, BHP merged with York-based cloud accounting specialist Atkinsons Consulting.
The firm, which was previously based on Micklegate, was advised on the lease by York-based James Bradley and Tim Cross at Langleys Solicitors. Ian Tulloch at RHW Developments provided specialist property advice.
Daniel Sowden, partner at BHP and heads up the firm’s York office, explained: “Expanding into Rievaulx House will mark the start of an important chapter for BHP in York.
“It offers a superb working environment as well as growing our presence and demonstrating the firm’s commitment to York and the wider region. The office is located within easy walking distance of the railway station, the city’s transport links, as well as its leisure and retail amenities.
“It’s also a fantastic base to continue expanding, we’ve just recruited four new members to the team and hope this will grow even more over the coming 12 months.
“This comes on the back of an extremely busy period for BHP. All our sector specialists in York, who cover North Yorkshire’s major industries including leisure, tourism, agriculture, retail and the service sectors, have won work with many of the city’s most successful businesses recently, ranging from large organisations through to SMEs.
“Our new premises put us in a great position to continue building on these successes further, as growing numbers of ambitious firms seek first-rate advice as the local economy continues to grow and prosper.”
James Bradley, associate solicitor at Langleys, added: “We are pleased to assist BHP in finding a new home that supports its growing presence in the city.
“As well as providing support on the lease agreement we also offered ongoing support to help them identify the right property.”
