Indie record label in Chester signs X-Factor 2017 contestant
Independent record label Jigsaw Records has signed an X-Factor 2017 contestant to its books.
The Chester-based company struck a deal with singer Gregor Coleman just three weeks after his elimination during the show’s Six Chair Challenge, which sees hopefuls from the Bootcamp stage compete for a place at the Judges’ Houses.
Judge Louis Walsh’s decision to swap Gregor out of his chair was was criticised on social media, with the social hashtag #GregorForWildcard trending within minutes.
In X-Factor, the Wildcard offers a second chance for contestants who have failed to secure a place in the next stage of the competition.
Gregor, originally from Glasgow, has signed with Jigsaw for a deal that includes multiple singles and an EP.
Jigsaw Records CEO Chris Percival said: “To say we’re excited to have Gregor on board is an understatement. His talent was clear for all to see on the show and our team can’t wait to work with him going forward.
“Furthermore, by signing Gregor, we also want to prove that whilst the X-Factor platform can help launch a career in music, winning it isn’t the only route to securing a record deal.”
Gregor’s debut single with Jigsaw is due for release on Tuesday, November 21.
Gregor commented: “I’m so excited to be working with Jigsaw Records. They may be a new label, but their vision for the future and their passion for making that vision come to life really excites me.
“I’m really looking forward to a very successful and creative relationship in the future.”
