Sheffield City Region £1.2m investment to help create 1,500 jobs in Bassetlaw
More than 1,500 logistics jobs and a one million sq ft warehouse are set to be created in Bassetlaw with the assistance of a £1.2m investment boost from the Sheffield City Region (SCR).
The SCR’s private business arm, the Local Enterprise Partnership, will compile the funding from its Local Growth Fund.
The £1.2m investment will be used to build a new junction for the planned Manton Wood Extension logistics site in Worksop, which will allow development work worth £9.9m to go ahead.
Commercial Property Partners LLP (CPP), the Sheffield-based agency appointed to manage the sale and letting of the Manton Wood development, has already attracted interest from key industrial businesses owing to its strategic location close to the A1.
The new junction is part of the second phase of improvements to the road system around Worksop, designed to make journeys easier and development sites more attractive to investors.
In the first phase the A60/A57/B6024 St Anne’s Drive Roundabout was completed. The second phase delivers two employment sites, Manton Wood Extension and Shireoaks Common.
Cllr Simon Greaves, leader of Bassetlaw District Council, and a member of the SCR Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “We welcome the start of infrastructure works that will pave the way for a significant distribution space and a major investment for the Bassetlaw area.
“The size of this potential development is fantastic news and could potentially create hundreds of jobs for local people.”
Cllr Jo White, cabinet member for economic development, added: “Worksop and North Nottinghamshire has a great track record of welcoming commercially viable sites that have excellent connectivity to the major arterial routes of the A1M and the M1, as well as easy access to international airports.
“We hope that any potential investors see this as another sign that Bassetlaw is open for business.”
Stephen Barnes, managing director at Network Space, the owners of the Manton Wood site, also commented: “Manton Wood is a proven logistics location being developed to address the need for more warehouse space in the region.
“This significant development reinforces our confidence in the Worksop area and reflects the strength of the local economy.”
