Four best friends pursue 'dream' of opening brand new hairdressing salon

Four best friends have launched their own salon in North Yorkshire after working together for almost two decades.

Principal stylists Lisa Hedley, Daniella Bevan, Trudie Heugh and Tracy Nursey have announced the opening of their own FOUR hairdressing salon, in Thirsk.

The group of friends had talked about going into business for years, but it wasn’t until mum-of-two Lisa was given the all clear after cancer treatment that they decided it was time to pursue this business venture.

Tracy said: “We’ve all been so involved in creating a boutique salon that is more personal for our clients and where we have the time to make the whole experience more relaxed and enjoyable, a place that reflects each and every one of us.”

“FOUR is the dream. It’s the ideal solution, we can still work together, but in an environment that is right for us and our lives.”

The women had all previously worked at a rival salon in Northallerton for over 18 years and more recently started to discuss starting their own business together, but when Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 all plans were postponed.

Lisa underwent chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy.

Daniella commented: “I’ve never seen anyone deal with what she went through with such strength. She never moaned and she looked so well throughout it.”

“She had a real zest for life,” added Trudie.

The women started to pursue going into business together when Lisa was given the all clear after a second health scare earlier this year. They found an empty shop on Sowerby Road and set a goal to open before Christmas.

They handed in their notices at work and have spent the last three months creating their new salon FOUR, sourcing antique brass mirrors and chairs for each of the 6 bespoke, handmade stylist stations.

Lisa said: “Opening Four with my best friends is everything I could have dreamed of. It’s a new start and we can’t wait.”

The salon will open 5 days a week, Tuesday to Saturday, including a late night Wednesday.
