Plans approved for £4.35m hamlet at ‘idyllic countryside location’ in Cheshire
Plans to deliver new Georgian and Victorian-style homes in a hamlet development in Cheshire have been approved.
The £4.35m scheme, designed by Calderpeel Architects for landowner Paul Foden, will create five detached homes within a 14,500 sq ft gated hamlet.
Located opposite the historic St John the Evangelist Church on Church Lane in Sandbach, the site chosen is currently occupied by a 1960s farmhouse and associated outbuildings.
Calderpeel said its concept of creating a hamlet-style development relating to the nearby church, which dates back to 1861, was pivotal in achieving planning permission.
The centrepiece of the project will be a 3,000 sq ft four-bedroom Georgian-style property.
Builders will also deliver two 2,500 sq ft Victorian-style four-bedroom cottages.
A further two new-build, five-bedroom barn-type conversions will complete the site. One will come with a two-acre paddock and the other with six and half acres.
Calderpeel architect James Mellor said: “This is an idyllic countryside location and it was important for the properties to fit seamlessly into their surroundings.
“Paul provided a very clear brief and we’ve worked closely with him to develop a design that pays homage to the area’s rich agricultural heritage.”
He continued: “Although new-build, the individual properties strongly showcase an array of local historic architectural features, though we’ve also added a contemporary edge to them.”
Landowner Paul Foden commented: “Sandbach is a thriving market town, we’ve lived here for many years and wanted to create a development that fitted in with the growing town, but which also offered something a little different.
“The vision has always been for traditional Georgian and Victorian exterior and a modern, sleek interior. Calderpeel’s design delivers on all our specifications and we are delighted that the development will be offering five unique and sustainable family homes.”
Barnes Walker Landscapes Limited, Dolphin Land & Developments, SCP highways consultant David Roberts and planning consultant Russell Adams all worked on the scheme with Calderpeel Architects.
Construction of the homes is due to start in the new year.
