December fun thanks to The National Lottery

This December, Northumberland Wildlife Trust will be joining hundreds of visitor attractions throughout the United Kingdom to say a massive thank- you to players of the National Lottery for the support they have given heritage, and the wildlife charity, through Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grants over the years.

As part of the week-long national celebrations, the Trust’s newly opened Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre on Druridge Bay will be offering free one hour guided bird identification walks to National Lottery players on Monday 11th, Wednesday 13th and Friday 15th December, starting at 1.00pm as a thank-you to them for buying a lottery ticket and thereby making possible a number of Trust projects over the years. There’s no need to book either, simply turn up with a lottery ticket or scratch card and take in the wonders of the reserve for yourself.

In February 2015, Northumberland Wildlife Trust’s Dynamic Druridge project received £417,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund, a large part of which was spent on the design and construction of a new visitor centre to replace the previous building which was destroyed in an arson attack in 2010.

Ros Kerslake, Chief Executive of the Heritage Lottery Fund, said: “December is a wonderful time to experience the UK’s rich, diverse and exciting heritage, which has been transformed by more than £7bn National Lottery funding since 1994. This is a small gesture of thanks and a way of giving something back to the people who buy tickets.”

Alex Lister, Druridge Bay Living Landscape Manager, says: “Thanks to National Lottery players we’ve been able to do some fantastic work over the Druridge Bay area over the last couple of years.

“Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre forms a big part of that and is testament to how valuable National Lottery players are; so whether you play in a syndicate, buy a ticket or tickets each week or have only ever played once, why not come along to Hauxley, enjoy a walk around reserve and see for yourself how you have helped us.”
