Lancashire dairy behind specialist barista milk secures bank funding

Brades Farm Dairy is expanding its barista milk business with the help of six-figure funding.

The Lancashire-based company used the funding package from HSBC to purchase more than 120 Jersey cows, which produce unique high-butterfat and high-protein milk.

The cash will also enable Brades Farm to expand its livestock housing premises.

Having already grown its production capacity by 200%, the firm is now working to grow sales in Manchester and other UK cities.

Brades Farm will aim to recruit two new staff and increase turnover by 30% in the next 12 months.

The company was set up after its founders spotted a gap in the market for a dairy company that focuses on the growing independent coffee sector.

Brades Farm said its Barista Milk product has become increasingly popular among London’s independent coffee shops, who praise it for its taste and ability to hold ‘latte art’ for longer.

The general manager at Brades Farm Dairy, Joe Towers, said: “Our family has been farming in the Lune Valley in Lancashire for 14 generations and our history in this area is important to us.

“To be able to bring a contemporary product like Brades Farm Barista Milk to the latest independent coffee shops of the UK from the Lune Valley is something we’re incredibly proud of.”

Joe added: “HSBC’s funding will now help us realise our ambitions to produce barista milk for coffee lovers nationwide.”

HSBC’s agriculture director for Lancashire, Andrew Smith, commented: “Brades Farm Dairy have created a unique and bespoke milk product with barista milk and we are delighted to support them as they develop this product further.

“Boutique coffee has always found an audience but is currently experiencing new levels of popularity and demand from coffee houses in large cities like London and Manchester.”

He continued: “The Towers’ family are now well placed to fulfil this increased level demand for their barista milk. We look forward to continuing to work with The Towers’ family in support of their business as it moves to the next level.”
