Oldham contractor helps Premier Inn expand in £15m deal
Leisure contractor Medlock FRB is helping hotel chain Premier Inn expand across the North.
The Oldham-based firm is delivering a string of projects for the national hotel chain in a multi-million pound deal, with three completed and two more underway.
Medlock built premises for Premier Inn at Ulverston in Cumbria and on the seafronts at Bridlington and Rhyl.
Now, the firm is working on a 24-bedroom extension and improvements to the lobby and reception at the hotel’s Stockport branch. The project is due for completion in April.
Medlock is also building a four-storey, 44-bedroom annex at the Premier Inn at Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.
The total value of all five contracts is almost £15m.
In Ulverston, Medlock created a 79-bedroom hotel incorporating a Thyme restaurant and breakfast bar. The Bridlington scheme, which was the resort’s first newbuild hotel since the 1930s, has 82 bedrooms and a Cookhouse and Pub restaurant.
On the promenade in Rhyl, Medlock built a 70-bedroom hotel that also features a Cookhouse and Pub.
Medlock project director Dan Lewis said: “The three newly-completed schemes mean we have now successfully delivered 10 Premier Inn projects for Whitbread over the past three years.
“We are delighted to see our relationship with Whitbread continue with the latest projects at Stockport South and Stoke-on-Trent.”
The Premier Inn brand is owned by leisure giant Whitbread, which is aiming to expand its current hotel portfolio of 68k rooms to 85k by 2020.
