North Yorkshire tech startup launches brand new industry monitoring tool

A Northallerton-based technology startup has announced the launch of a brand new temperature and humidity monitor.

The team at AmbaSense has launched its Tiaki sensor following 18 months of research and development.

Now available, Tiaki provides accurate recordings of temperature and humidity readings in fridges and freezers through a Wi-Fi enabled monitor which sits in fridges and freezers of all sizes.

The AmbaSense solution covers a wide range of market sectors, including food and catering, healthcare and pharmaceutical, horticultural and transportation.

The Tiaki sensor works by automatically measuring temperature and humidity and submitting these readings to the online AmbaSense Dashboard.

The Dashboard is a cloud-based ‘app’ which provides full access to sensor temperatures, temperature alerts, notifications, corrective actions and customisable reports.

The Tiaki sensor and dashboard also operates 24 hours a day and will alert key personnel as soon as a reading requires attention, ensuring safe, reliable and efficient performance.

AmbaSense was created in 2017 by co-founders, Martin Platt, Marcel Houtveen and Daniel Hopwood, who boast 40 years’ experience in the environmental health and IT industries.

Martin Platt, co- founder and director of AmbaSense, commented: “We developed Tiaki as we realised there was a need in the market for a simple yet effective solution to temperature and humidity monitoring, one that didn’t require large scale infrastructure to be implemented alongside it.

“With Tiaki, AmbaSense has developed a product that can be used in businesses of all sizes with minimal installation process and only needs a Wi Fi connection and batteries.

He added: “At present, temperature and humidity monitoring systems are expensive and prohibitive for many small and medium sized businesses. Valuable hours are spent by businesses to manually measure and record critical temperatures on an ongoing basis.

“With Tiaki, there are no wires, no additional software and no need to keep paper records. The outcome is an easy to install device which frees up important time for people to focus on other areas.”

AmbaSense has recently been trialling Tiaki with Proper Tasty, a North Yorkshire sandwich retailer and wholesaler as well as a catering business. Proper Tasty has been using the Tiaki system in its walk-in fridges and freezers.

Byron Evans, owner of Proper Tasty, commented: “We’ve been working with AmbaSense over the last six months, using the Tiaki sensors in our fridges and freezers at Proper Tasty.

“It’s been fantastic for us to have freed up staff time from manually monitoring temperatures; now we have them recorded reliably and securely on the online dashboard. We now have 24/7 real time temperature control.

“If there’s a problem, we are alerted and can take care of the issue in a quick and easy way. It has proven it worth by saving us thousands of pounds in wasted stock by immediately alerting us to any anomaly in our chillers and freezers.

“It’s taken away a task that whilst important, used up valuable time and we can now focus efforts elsewhere in growing our business and delivering the food that we are renowned for.”
