Halton Housing to build 1000 homes with £60m funding

A housing association in Cheshire is set to deliver 1,000 new homes after securing an eight-figure funding package with Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.

Halton Housing will use the £60m boost to build a mix of houses, apartments and bungalows over the next five years.

The properties will be available to buy and rent.

Halton Housing was established in 2005 and today provides more than 7,000 homes for over 20,000 people.

In the last six years, the organisation has accelerated its development programme with the construction of over 1,000 new homes across Halton, Widnes and Runcorn.

Executive director of business services, Neil McGrath, said: “Housing is in demand across the area and we want to ensure that people have access to high-quality homes that are affordable.

“We’ve worked with Lloyds Bank for more than 12 years and the tailored support that its social housing team has provided has been a key part of our growth.”

He added: “Not only did they arrange funding that’s exactly suited to our needs, but the team’s in-depth knowledge of the sector meant they were always on hand to act as a sounding board for new ideas.”

Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking’s social housing relationship director, Mike Stevenson, commented: “Organisations like Halton Housing are doing fantastic work in local communities, and are helping more people across the area to take their first steps on the property ladder.

“It’s therefore vital that the social housing industry has the specialist funding it needs to thrive, and in 2017 we provided £2bn of new funding to helping companies across the sector to prosper.”
