MoneySuperMarket acquires London-based comparison firm for £40m
Moneysupermarket.com Group PLC has announced a deal to acquire comparison business Decision Technologies Limited.
The Chester-headquartered price comparison giant will pay £40m for Decision Tech, which provides home communications comparison both as a B2B service and through its own consumer comparison brands, including broadbandchoices.co.uk.
Decision Tech is a ‘white-label’ provider and powers several of the UK’s leading comparison tools, including MoneySuperMarket’s own Moneysavingexpert.com platform.
The acquisition is part of MoneySuperMarket’s strategy, outlined in February, to unlock new market growth by taking price comparison to the user.
Decision Tech, it said in a statement, is among the “most advanced and scalable B2B comparison offerings” in the UK.
The acquired company will be earnings accretive for MoneySuperMarket, with forecasts pointing to a £3.6m adjusted EBITDA for the 12 months March 31 2018.
Mark Lewis, CEO of MoneySuperMarket, said: “We are delighted to announce this transaction and I look forward to welcoming Michael [Phillips, founder of Decision Tech] and his team to the Moneysupermarket Group.
“We said we would be working to take price comparison to users via sites they regularly visit on their mobiles, and Decision Tech’s B2B operation does just that.”
He continued: “Decision Tech is one of the UK’s leading platforms for helping consumers compare and choose home communications, broadband and mobile phone deals. This is an area people find complex and confusing, and where there are plenty of savings to be made by customers.”
Decision Tech is headquartered in London and employs over 40 people. The current management team will continue to lead the business from its offices in Holborn.
Michael Phillips, founder and CEO of Decision Tech, commented: “I am delighted that Decision Technologies is joining the Moneysupermarket Group.
“This is a testament to our team’s dedication to technical innovation in creating cutting edge comparison solutions for our partners, and a first-class user experience for consumers looking to save money through our portfolio of brands.”
He added: “We are looking forward to being part of a group that shares our values and will open new opportunities for us to launch new products to our B2B partners and build the profile of our trusted consumer brands.”
