Tinder a ‘perfect match’ for Manchester City as club strikes deal with dating app

Manchester City have entered into a new multi-year partnership with dating app Tinder.

A giant City-branded blimp marked the launch of the partnership as it soared over Manchester today (April 5), with Tinder switching the colours across its social platforms to sky blue ahead of the derby this Saturday.

The deal marks Tinder’s first big foray into the world of sport and covers MCFC’s men and women’s first teams, as well as owner City Football Group’s sister club New York City FC.

App users and football fans will be offered a range of fan engagement activities, including access to games and stadium events.

Tom Glick, City Football Group’s chief commercial officer, said in a statement on the MCFC website: “Tinder is a huge global platform which, just like football, is bringing millions of people together every day all around the world.

“Football is all about a community of fans, sharing moments, emotions and passion for the sport they love.”

He continued: “Together with Tinder, we have a great opportunity to explore how we can combine Tinder’s significant appeal and reach with our global audience to create even more relationships in a new, fun and creative way. We believe this will be a perfect match for Tinder and for City.”

Tinder is available in nearly 200 countries and comes in over 40 languages.

Tinder’s VP partnerships, David Wyler, commented: “Tinder’s global presence and highly engaged user base gives us a unique understanding of what people all over the world are passionate about.

“And they’ve made it clear that they have a love for sports, particularly football.”

He continued: “Football is a sport where anything can happen at any moment.

“We wanted to be true to the game and do something unexpected by surprising the fans and our users with news of our partnership in a fun and creative way.”

According to the Daily Mail, the deal follows the breakdown of a proposed tie-up between Tinder and City rivals Manchester United. Last summer, the popular dating app was reportedly interested in striking a shirt sleeve sponsorship deal with MUFC.
