How Apps Have Completely Changed our Lifestyles

It’s hard to believe that the humble smartphone only entered our lives barely a decade ago, since nowadays our phones and the apps they support now influence every aspect of our lives, from the way we eat, shop, travel, listen to music and entertain ourselves. There’s now pretty much an app for absolutely everything in an increasingly convenient world, from picking up your dry cleaning to dropping off your groceries - and there’s even an app which will send you fake phone calls when you want to escape an awkward situation.

People have made their fortunes from developing apps that have come to take over our lives, so here’s a look at some of the ways these apps have totally changed the way we live today.

One of the biggest indicators of the pre-eminence of the app is the marked decline in going shopping to actual shops, with e-retail giants like Amazon and Ebay stepping in to capture an increasingly large share of people’s spending money. Nowadays this is going even further, with an ever-larger portion of the population now doing the majority of their shopping on their mobiles, with such app-based shopping increasing 54 percent in 2017 alone. The way people bet and win money has arguably been revolutionised the most by app developers, with the proliferation of a mind-boggling range of casino apps for Androids, iPhones as well as Windows Phones now at our fingertips to allow us to gamble on games such as slots, roulette and blackjack with real money without having to step into a tuxedo (although you can if you want to). If you were to gather together all of your entertainment technology from ten or fifteen years ago in one room, the place would likely be piled high with DVDs, CD’s, music players, televisions and gaming consoles. While these things certainly still exist, the fact that all of them can now fit comfortably within your iPhone has had tremendous implications for how we entertain ourselves. You can watch all the latest films on Netflix, listen to every song in existence with Spotify, play increasingly high-spec and sophisticated video games, and of course there’s the greatest development in how we human beings now keep ourselves occupied: social media.
