Pitch process launched to help Heathrow become 'most successful hub airport in the world'
Heathrow Airport has announced plans to launch a pitch to urge potential commercial development partners to share their ideas on how to deliver the airport’s expansion.
As Heathrow prepares for the next phase of expansion, businesses, entrepreneurs and leaders are being invited to register an expression of interest.
This pitch is set to be the start of a three part process that could see them partner with Heathrow Airport to deliver a variety of infrastructure projects at the airport.
Heathrow said that all ideas will be expected to focus on opportunities that further improve customer service, drive cost efficiency, grow commercial revenues and deliver sustainability targets.
Pitches will also need to demonstrate how they meet the commitments outlined in the government’s draft airport national policy statement.
Those that that make it through to the short list will be invited to a pitch process with Heathrow decision makers.
John Holland-Kaye, CEO at Heathrow Airport, said: “Over the last 10 years, Heathrow has delivered better service at lower cost, whilst becoming a leader in sustainability. We are now regularly rated as one of the best airports in the world.
“As we prepare the final masterplan, it is a good time to listen to any proposals that can help us to make Heathrow the most successful hub airport in the world, in a way that is sustainable, affordable and financeable.”
Holland-Kaye concluded: “We have had a number of people approach us during this year’s public consultation, so we have decided to open up a competitive process that will give those with the best ideas a chance to work with us.
“We are willing to work with anyone who shares our values and who is committed to delivering on the promises we have made on the environment, to our neighbours and to the country.”
Interested parties will be told in the next fortnight how they can register their interest and details of the eligibility criteria will be posted online. From there, time will be given for long listed parties to form top line business cases.
