London architects Arney Fender Katsalidis look to grow in Canada

Architecture and interiors firm Arney Fender Katsalidis is strengthening its presence in North America.

The London-based company has taken on Martin Sparrow as a director at its new Toronto office, where he will spearhead the company’s growth in Canada.

Arney Fender Katsalidis has worked on a number of projects in North America, including the Brookfield Place scheme in Calgary and the interiors of professional services giant Deloitte’s Montreal and Toronto headquarters.

The firm said Martin’s appointment is part of a move in Canada to a broader architectural focus to match its studios in London and Australia.

Arney Fender Katsalidis launched over five years ago in London. Today, the company employs a team of 80 in the UK and 15 at its Toronto studio, which opened in November 2017.

Earle Arney, chief exec of Arney Fender Katsalidis, said: “Martin’s appointment is a major milestone in the practice’s expansion into Canada and our growing global profile.

“Martin has been a long-term collaborator and trusted friend to the practice and we welcome his talent and his enthusiasm and enormous experience into the team.”

He continued: “Working together with our leadership team in Canada, Martin will help to expand our client network and harness the exciting business opportunities that Toronto and North America presents, as we broaden our focus in Canada, from workplace interiors to architecture.

“We are confident that Martin’s appointment and our growing body of projects will help us reach a similar ambitious growth trajectory to when we opened our London, UK studio five years ago.”

Martin Sparrow has more than 30 years’ experience in his field, working most recently as principal-in-charge of Canadian architects Dialog.

Commenting on his appointment, Martin hailed Arney Fender Katsalidis as an “ambitious, visionary firm that I have enjoyed a long-standing working collaboration with”, adding: “I have enormous respect for the quality of the output of the practice, and relish the challenge of building the firm’s presence and architectural work in North America, and welcoming many long-standing clients to join me on this journey.”
