Entrepreneur creates jobs in Mexborough with new bar and bistro

A new bar, bistro and coffee lounge has arrived in Mexborough

Entrepreneur Michelle Carr, owner of the Park View bar and function suite in Swinton, created 10 jobs with the launch of the Empress Rooms.

The venue opened its doors on Thursday (June 21) in a ceremony attended by Doncaster Council’s Cllr Sean Gibbons and Tommy Joyce MBE.

It follows an investment of more than £150k from Jason Mace, managing director of gazebo business Gala Tent and owner of the Empress Building.

He has spent the last 10 months turning the former ballroom and dance hall into a hub for business, health and community activity.

Dating back to the 1920s, the property was created to mirror the dance halls of popular resort towns like Blackpool, Lancashire – but in recent years it fell into disrepair.

Michelle Carr, who also owns the nearby Park View bar and function suite in Swinton, said: “We are really excited about our plans for the Empress Rooms. It is quite unlike anywhere else in the area and we hope will help to revitalise this part of Mexborough and bring more visitors into the town.

“Our chefs have a real passion for good quality food and locally sourced fresh ingredients and we’ll be serving a variety of mouth-watering dishes to suit all tastes.”

Jason commented: “The opening of the Empress Rooms is the culmination of many months of planning and significant investment in the building.

“This bar-bistro-lounge is just what Mexborough needs;somewhere that local people can meet up with friends, family or business colleagues and enjoy a meal, or just catch up over a coffee, prosecco or a few beers.”

He continued: “We’ve had some great feedback as the Empress Rooms has the look and feel of a sophisticated city centre bar, without the need to go into the city! We’re looking forward to bringing the buzz back into this part of Mexborough.”
