Yorkshire firms team up for £20m IconInc development in Lincoln

Four Leeds businesses and another based in Harrogate have teamed up to work on a £20m student accommodation complex in Lincoln.

The Parklane Group is developing the 138-apartment scheme under its IconInc brand, alongside principle contractor The Broadley Group and civil-structural engineering services provider Adept Consulting Engineers.

Designs for the scheme were created by Brewster Bye Architects, while Harrogate firm StudioMAP is developing the design through the construction stage.

The building is located at the junction of Beaumont Fee Mint Lane and Park Street. As part of the works, the frontages of several historic buildings – including the original home of Lincoln coffee business RW Stokes, St Martin’s Parish Hall and a former school – are undergoing restoration and incorporation into the student development.

On-site facilities will include a steam room, sauna, cinema, gym and 24-hour concierge service.

Paul Manku, of Broadley, said: “We’re delighted to have started work on this innovative scheme which will push the boundaries of student accommodation in Lincoln.

“Parts of the old buildings have already been demolished and the historic frontages will be complemented by a five-storey, new-build element that will combine to make this a landmark development in a highly sought after location, within easy walking distance of Lincoln University and many of the city’s best bars, restaurants and shops.”

Adept’s Jonathan Ashton commented: “This development will see the retention and restoration of several historic building façades that will be key features of the new scheme.

“This coupled with a compact site has presented several complex engineering challenges and we’ve created a substantial steel frame with more than 100 piles, to stitch the two distinctive parts of the development together and ensure it becomes a focal point of Lincoln city centre’s architectural heritage for many years to come.”

The IconInc development will open Summer 2019.
