Nottinghamshire good causes given cash boost
An under 11s football team in Newark and a cancer care centre at Nottingham City Hospital – have bagged cash donations from a leading housebuilder.
Warriors Mercians under 11s football club and Maggie’s Nottingham are the latest beneficiaries of Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme.
The football club has been handed £750 to cover the costs of new kit and training equipment, including balls, as the team gets ready to start the new season.
Maggie’s Nottingham, meanwhile, will use its £1,000 donation to go towards its ongoing running costs for maintaining its support and services for people with cancer and their families and friends across Nottinghamshire.
The national match-funding scheme seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment across the region. Each month the builder donates up to £2,000 to community groups within Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire.
Matthew Ridyard of Warrior Mercians, said: “We have been winning back to back promotions and last season the under 11’s team were crowned the champions. Our club currently has 140 members and is continually growing.
“Persimmon’s donation is a huge help for the under 11s and the players are very proud to start the season in a new kit. We are very grateful.”
Lauren Alcock, fundraiser for the Maggie’s Centre in Nottingham, said: “We provide a welcoming haven and offer a programme of support for anyone coping with cancer as well as their families and friends. This service is so beneficial and relies entirely on voluntary donations. Therefore, Persimmon’s support is a huge help in ensuring we can maintain our services.”
Persimmon Homes Nottingham is currently building at sites across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. A further nine developments are planned to open in the coming months including the contemporary designed, Sandfield Walk, development located in the heart of Nottingham city centre and ideally placed for Nottingham University Hospital.
Neil Follows, managing director at Persimmon Homes Nottingham, said: “We are delighted to be able to help these two good causes with this money.
“Giving back to the communities in which we build is right at the heart of the Persimmon Homes ethos, and Community Champions is just one way in which we do that.”
