Special discounts available as Liverpool BID Company celebrates the city’s best independent businesses

Liverpool BID Company has announced the full list of restaurants, bars and retailers taking part in this week’s Independents’ Week - kick-starting today (Monday, July 2) - with huge offers and events in celebration of Liverpool’s finest independent businesses.

Independents’ Week culminates on Sunday (July 8) with Celebrating Bold Street - a huge street party takeover of this popular thoroughfare which will include a farmers’ market, art and crafts stalls, and street entertainment. Well-established restaurants taking part in the event include Mowgli Street Food, who will be cooking up an array of sweet and savory delights throughout the day, American Pizza Slice, giving visitors the opportunity to create their own doughy-delights, and Leaf, who will be serving summer-inspired drinks as well as having its own tea blending station.

Retailers taking part include Liverpool favourite Matta’s International Foods, who will be giving out samples outside, live music performances by Dig Vinyl, while News From Nowhere will be holding its famous “Bolshy Bargain Bookstall” outside the long-established bookshop.

Independents’ Week will see no less than 18 city-centre restaurants and bars offering fantastic deals and events to celebrate their independence, with Neighbourhood Liverpool on Castle Street taking 50% off your bill from Monday to Thursday and One Fine Day hosting a packed week of events including a Midway Mindfulness Lunch or After Dark Gong Spa.

Popular shops and service providers will also be taking part during the week, with Silverberg Opticians on Whitechapel offering a free pair of prescription sunglasses when you buy a pair of full price spectacles (terms and conditions apply) and Voodou in the Cavern Quarter offering 50% off haircuts for all new clients.

Independents’ Week aims to put the spotlight on the BID independent levy payers across the BID areas - Retail & Leisure BID (Metquarter, St Johns, Clayton Square, Queen Square, Church Street, Bold Street and Williamson Square) and Commercial District BID (in and around Castle Street and Old Hall Street). Now in its second year, Independents’ Week includes a number of special events and offers to showcase and support the city’s independent business community.

Nisha Katona, founder, Mowgli, and Liverpool BID Company levy payer, said:

“Being our mothership and the birthplace of Mowgli, Bold Street holds a dear place in my heart. Before launching here in 2014, I used to park on the street on a daily basis and counted customers to Leaf and Bold Street Coffee which were then, the only established, thriving hip independents. The whole scene and atmosphere in the Bold Street area really excites me.

“From restaurants and eateries to retailers specialising in unique gifts and wares, Liverpool can proudly boast a thriving independent scene. Independents’ Week not only throws the spotlight on these fantastic businesses but supports the community and encourages us to all work together supporting each other.”

Bill Addy, chief executive, Liverpool BID Company, said:

“We created Independents’ Week to champion our BID independent levy payers and showcase the rich independent offering in the BID areas. Local entrepreneurship and family business is what gives our city its unique character - and is a beating heart that needs our support to secure its continued growth.

“Celebrating Bold Street in particular is a wonderful event and an excuse to highlight the many fantastic and varied retailers, restaurants and bars located there. Bold Street is famous for its uniqueness, and we hope this event will show that, attracting visitors in their thousands, both those familiar with the street and those who have yet to experience its magic. The atmosphere was electric during last year’s event, and we cannot wait to do it all again this year!”
