Pendleside celebrate Making a Local Difference Win at Pendle Business Awards

Pendleside Hospice are celebrating after scooping a Pendle Business Award for Making a Local Difference in the community.

The hospice, which has been established over three decades, was recognised for reaching out to over 1500 local people each year through a team of 120 staff and an army of volunteers.

Now in their 6th year, The Pendle Business Awards recognise the success and contributions from local businesses through a ceremony, which took place this year on 5th July at The Fence Gate Inn, Fence.

New initiatives from the hospice over the last 12 months include the Hospice at Home service which is one of the largest in the North West, extended bereavement support, developing support for people with dementia and their award-winning apprentice scheme, all of which contributed to the organisation being recognised for making a local difference.

In addition, fundraising efforts in 2017 saw 1200 local people sign up for the inaugural Colour Dash event, raising over £58,000, a Corporate Challenge for local businesses raising over £97,000 and the annual Light up a Life campaign which saw the hospice ranked fourth in the country out of 119 hospices for raising £105,000 from this event.

Helen McVey, Pendleside Hospice Chief Executive said: “We are delighted to receive this award in recognition of the work that we carry out with the local community. As our late president, Miss Muriel Jobling MBE, always stated, “Pendleside was built by the community for the community” and that sentiment is echoed through the achievement of this award.”

“We are very proud in our 30th anniversary year to receive such an accolade; the Hospice really wouldn’t exist without the support of local people and the local business community who together ensure that the Hospice continues to make a local difference to the people who need our support”.
