Creative agency and education recruiter sign at Newcastle’s Earl Grey House

A creative agency and recruitment business have become the latest firms to sign at Newcastle’s Earl Grey House.

Digital marketing company Tangent secured 1,950 sq ft on the second floor on the Grey Street office and leisure scheme.

The firm will move in alongside national education recruiter Teaching Personnel, which is moving its North East team from Citibase on Mosley Street to 2,772 sq ft on the fourth floor of the 58,000 sq ft building.

Knight Frank and GVA, joint property agents on the development, said 90% of its office space is now let.

The Grade II-listed building recently underwent a comprehensive refurbishment, before which a 3,500 sq ft office was let to US games developer Epic Games and 1,900 sq ft to law firm Vardags.

The basement at Earl Grey House has lain vacant since 2013, but cinema operator Everyman is set to create around 30 jobs there with a venue opening in early 2019. The four-screen cinema will also house a bar and a restaurant.

Tangent’s director of service, Helen Oliver, said: “Earl Grey House is the perfect base for us.

“Attracting talented people to join our ever-growing software development team is paramount and we were keen to secure a property in a central location with good transport links and access to the city’s amenities.”

She added: “The high ceilings and exposed services allow us to create a bright, airy and contemporary working environment, which is perfectly complemented by the thriving city centre atmosphere.”

Rebecca Maddison, associate at Knight Frank, said: “Earl Grey House is a fresh approach to meeting the rapidly changing requirements of office occupiers.

“Companies’ needs are evolving and they are putting more emphasis on using the workplace as a tool to attract and retain talent. They are increasingly looking for inspiring, contemporary spaces that promote the wellbeing of their teams.”

She continued: “We know our market very well and by listening to prospective tenants, the refurbishment of Earl Grey House was designed and developed with potential occupiers at the heart of every decision.

“It is this recipe that has ensured its popularity and secured record rents.”
