Harrogate company develops job board for skilled ‘unretirees’

A company in Harrogate has set up a new platform to help people put their skills to use after retiring from corporate life.

Next-Up has developed a job board for ‘unretirees’ that lists projects they could get involved in with charities and businesses.

The platform also offers information on trustee and non-executive director positions, or routes to startup mentoring through the Prince’s Trust.

Next-Up said one example of a listing on its job board is from children’s museum Eureka!, which is opening a second £11m venue on the Wirral, Merseyside.

The organisation is seeking the help and wisdom of people with experience in local government, property, legal and other sectors to guide them through the initial planning stages.

Next-Up’s founder and chief exec, Victoria Tomlinson, said: “We want to create a new market through this site.

“We have done considerable research with charities and not-for-profits and they would absolutely love to tap into the experience of this unretired market.”

She continued: “But many struggle to find the right trustees and had not even thought of asking for help on projects.

“Equally, a number of unretired people have written to schools, councils, charities and more offering their skills and not even had a reply. They were offering help for free – they just want to feel useful and relevant. I hope we can bring these two together and really make more of this untapped resource.”
