Housebuilder given go-ahead to deliver 110 homes near Reading

A project to build 110 homes near Reading has received the planning greenlight after three years of public consultation and master planning.

Town planners and architects Pro Vision prepared a Neighbourhood Plan and designs for the scheme in Mortimer, on behalf of housebuilder T A Fisher.

The developer is working with property company Englefield Estate, which owns most of the 20-acre greenfield site.

The homes comprise a mix of bungalows, apartments and houses ranging from one to five bedrooms, with 40% of the units marked as affordable.

Included in the development are seven acres of landscaped public open space and 2.5 acres for a new three-form entry school and doctor surgery.

Pro Vision planning director Katherine Miles said: “We are delighted the planning committee has granted a resolution for outline permission for this scheme which will deliver new homes and associated infrastructure in the area.

“The development achieves a high-quality design with generous plots, open spaces and buildings which respond to local character of the area.”

Planning permission, Katherine explained, followed lengthy consultation with West Berkshire Council and engagement with Stratfield Mortimer Parish Council and people in the area.

The development was designed to reflect the Stratfield Mortimer Neighbourhood Plan, adopted after a local referendum in June last year saw 88% of residents vote in favour.

John Fisher, managing director of T A Fisher, commented: “We are delighted to finally have the ‘green light’ on what is a truly fabulous site.

“Our team successfully navigated a very rigorous planning process which has involved much consultation and engagement with the Neighbourhood Plan Group and other stakeholders.”

He continued: “As local housebuilders it is now our responsibility to deliver a development that fits with the landscape and local environs and which, moreover, achieves a high quality in terms of design and standard of workmanship.”
