Ponteland popstar launches canine clothing line
The founding member of Newcastle girl group Sirens is launching a fashion label for dogs.
Karina Chambers, the mind behind the new business, will aim to give dog owners more options for their pooches while fulfilling her ambition of helping dogs in need.
Karina, from Ponteland, said: “My days in Sirens were amazing and being signed to an Indie Label enabled us to keep creative control.
“Unlike other girl bands signed to major labels, we had to work on a very small budget which forces you to become very inventive in your style.”
Dog Clothing, which Karina describes as “English countryside meets LA streetwear”, will sell t-shirts, polos, hoodies, baseball caps and beanies.
During the days of Sirens, she was rarely seen without her crossbreed dog ‘Puppy’.
The band grew to fame after releasing a number of urban and club records, including ‘Club La La’, which hit number one in the US and Japan.
Sirens’ first two albums, ‘Control Freaks’ and ‘Say Goodbye to LA LA Land’, were both rated five stars by Dan Cairns at The Sunday Times.
Speaking further, Karina said: “To combine my love of fashion and my passion for animals is truly a dream come true for me. I have never experienced a life without a dog or horse in it, and nor do I ever intend to.”
Alongside Dog Clothing, Karina will set up ‘The DC Trust’, through which a percentage of the company’s profits will go towards improving the lives of dogs around the world.
Dog Clothing will launch at an event on Wednesday (September 12) at the Newcastle Arts Centre.
