Nigel looks back on great career
A 58-year-old from Portishead is celebrating his incredible career as he calls time on a 30-year stint with a leading UK housebuilder.
Nigel Jones-Gerrard moved into the housebuilding industry in 1988 to focus on developments in Chippenham, before being promoted to construction project manager for Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, helping to oversee the Portishead Docks regeneration.
He said: “It’s been a pleasure to work for the business for such a long period and I have really enjoyed working on a wide variety of projects across the region.
“A particular highlight has been overseeing the £3.3million regeneration project for the Lock & Dock gates at Portishead, which still stand as the tallest in Europe. To play such a large role on a project such as this is an honour for me.
“Persimmon has given me the chance to oversee many heavy civil engineering projects right across the South West, from motorway junctions to sea defences, I’ve been able to develop my skills across the board.”
Nigel graduated from Surrey University in 1982, initially joining Taylor Woodrow as a junior civil engineer, but now the keen volleyball and squash player is looking forward to what retirement will bring: “I’m really excited to embark on the latest chapter of my life. I’ll be able to dedicate a lot more time to my DIY projects around the house, that’s for sure!”
Steve Roche, managing director for Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “Everyone was so sad to hear of Nigel’s retirement but what a fantastic servant he’s been.
“To work for the business for such a long time is testament to Nigel’s character and we’d all like to wish him all the very best for the future.”
Persimmon Homes Severn Valley has a wealth of job opportunities available across the region.
