Female entrepreneur raises over £1m crowdfunding for healthy eating startup

An East London-based startup and snack-brand, Emily Crisps, has raised over £1m investment through a crowd funding campaign.

The startup was founded by CEO and entrepreneur, Emily Wong.

The funding will help to accelerate the growth of Emily Crisps across the UK through increased brand awareness and distribution, in preparation for its US launch in 2019.

The Emily Crisps brand was founded in 2014 and launched exclusively in Selfridges, by partners Emily Wong and Ale Ascani, as a healthy alternative to traditional potato crisps and fruit snacks.

Emily Wong said: “We’re on a mission to help consumers snack better, without compromising on taste.

“We’re excited to see where this next stage of investment takes us and are asking people to join our journey and invest on the Seedrs website from as little as £10, so we can expand across the UK and beyond.”

Based in a Hackney creative hub, this female led startup has 75 per cent of its employees that are millennials and represent over eight different nationalities.

The company’s management team has grown the business to £2m in 18 months, and has raised over £1m of crowd investment so far - spearheading a new market segment.

Emily Crisps is now stocked in more than 5,000 retail locations in London and the South-West, including on the aisles of multinationals Waitrose, Sainsburys and Tesco but also of premium stores such as Planet Organic and Whole Food’s.
