Newcastle company to crowdfund upcoming ‘space battle’ board game
A Newcastle-based board game business is launching a five-figure crowdfunding campaign.
Eurydice Games will target £12k on Kickstarter next month to fund production of its second release, FlickFleet.
The game pits two players against each other in a tabletop space battle. Combatants flick their acrylic spaceships into position and destroy enemy ships by flicking dice at them.
The game uses several mechanisms to simulate its space battles. Dice, representing weapons, have to physically hit the target to deal damage, and each larger ship has a dashboard tracking their capabilities and condition.
FlickFleet is designed for players aged aged eight and up, and games last between 10 and 20 minutes.
FlickFleet in action
Jackson Pope, managing director of Eurydice Games, said: “FlickFleet is by far the most approachable game I’ve brought to market. It’s fast, it’s fun and it’s quick to play.”
The crowdfunding campaign will span two phases. It will target a hand-crafted run of 500 games, but if funding reaches £20k, Eurydice will switch to mass production.
The campaign will start on November 8 and run for one month, with pledges due to be fulfilled by November 2019.
Eurydice Games was founded in 2017. Jackson Pope previously published four games as Reiver Games between 2006 and 2011. FlickFleet was co-designed with Paul Willcox.
